Doug Hix

Editor-in-Chief

During his illustrious career in athletics, Doug Hix has trained some of the top professional athletes in the world. As founder of San Diego-based Play Fast Athletics, Hix has worked with athletes that have gone on to become the NFL rookie of the year, an NBA 1st round pick, Major League Baseball stars and an Olympian. His knowledge and understanding of the intricacies of sports training is exceptional.

A former All-American track star at Pittsburg State University, Hix began training athletes in 1996 under the guidance of one of the most prominent trainers in the country. His unique touch with athletes during the past 10 years opened the door for Hix to start a company that instructs thousands of youth athletes each year. His work with professional and amateur athletes has given him direct insight and contact with both the positive and negative instances that occur during the training of our youth athletes. These experiences propelled Hix to start an informative and educational magazine focused on the training of youth athletes for parents and coaches.

His goal in the creation of Youth Fitness Magazine is to properly educate parents and coaches on the physical, emotional and nutritional aspects of youth fitness. Hix’s experiences led him to believe that most parents hardly grasp what is needed for their child’s athletic development, so they leave it up to a coach. The sharp rise in overuse injuries coupled with the overall decline in kid’s participation in physical fitness surely signals that additional information needs to be shared when it comes to developing our younger generation in athletics. The vision of Youth Fitness Magazine is to educate parents to ensure that their kids are being placed in the best situation possible in order to have an enjoyable and successful sporting experience at their level of competition.
